Pompeii, Scavi Oplonti, and Herculaneum

On the morning of August 24th, AD 79, life was good, unless you lived next to Mt. Vesuvius! Only a few hours after erupting, the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum were covered in ash and preserved until excavations began in 1748.
I visited three sites in one day with Aurelie, who was staying at 6 Rooms as well and actually knew quite a lot about the ruins.

This smaller ruin is a villa, and belonged to Nero's second wife, Poppaea Sabina.
