La Zona Cafetera - Valle de Corcora

The next day, I joined Camille and Sebastian, two volunteers at the hostel for a hike in Valle de Corcora. The valley is east of Salento and home to the national tree, the palm de cera (it is also the tallest palm tree in the world). The hike took about six hours.
The vibe at La Serrana was incredibly relaxing. In the evenings most of us would read or watch movies with subtitles. I enjoyed the quiet and a few short stories in a magazine called the Sun, which featured many authors I was unfamiliar with. My last night there, Camille began a LOTR unedited marathon - which has to be a 12 hour commitment at least! The bus ride to Bucaramanga from Salento was grueling. No AC, blazing sun, and loads of traffic. Left Armenia around 7:15 am and arrived in Bogota around 6:30 pm. Rough. Here are some pics:

We caught a ride standing on the back of a jeep! We look excited but are actually holding on for dear life ;)

Architectural integrity?

There are several species of hummingbirds that can only be found in this region.

Camille and I enjoy a much deserved aquapanela and cheese!

Sebastian opts for the hot chocolate.

Words we could all live by :)

Sebastian kept humming the Jurassic Park theme song.

On our way back down to the valley.

Usually there is an incredible view of the valley at this point. Fortunately, it cleared up a little later.

The majestic wax palm. There is a person at the bottom of the picture for scale reference.

Cloud forest = insane hair

Breaking out!

One last walk.

The next morning, I had an escort back to Salento.

Back to Bogota!
