Budapest I

"Buda"
Although I hadn't planned on visiting it, I realized I was so close to Budapest that I couldn't pass up the opportunity to spend a couple of days there. I was staying at the Red Bus Hostel, which is very centrally located. Budapest is divided into two sections by the River Danube. The Buda, which is east of the river, and the Pest, which is west of the river. I planned on spending one day at each.
Hungary doesn't use the Euro, but the Florint. When I took out 19,000 Forints from a bank next to the station, I felt like a baller with my all my 2000 bills, but in reality it is only roughly 100 US dollars. (And probably a lot more than I needed to take out). No worries, I didn't let it go to my head and get a gold tooth, but I did spend about 600 a McChicken sandwich for lunch (not surprisingly, McDonalds has always been in or next to any station I have been to so far, even in the tiny town of La Spezia).

Some things I did on the first day:
Walked through "pest" to a chain bridge, the Szechenyl Ianchid. I then walked up to the Buda Royal Palace. Afterwards, I visited Mathias Church, during the end of a graduation ceremony.

My room, sooo cute!

Didn't try the pizza while I was here for some reason :)

Lots of Casinos throughout the city

A graduation ceremony, I think. They were singing as they left the church.

Walking back down the hill to the Metro station

Next up "pest", starting at Parliament.

I was pretty tired after walking all day, and I wanted to get up early to see if I could get in on a tour of the Parliament building the next morning. You can't get in without being part of one. Back at the hostel, I chatted with the girls who were rooming with me about things to do the next day, including going to a thermal spring spa.
